2008 Fire Prevention Week
October 5th - 11th
"It's Fire Prevention Week: Prevent Home Fires"
Every year during the month of October the Englewood Fire Department participates in a nationally recognized “Fire Prevention Week”. The month is used to deliver the message of fire safety to our community and most importantly to the youth of the city. Fire Inspectors and firefighters equipped with lesson plans, videos, and informational handouts visit our schools to educate our youngest customers on fire prevention tips and techniques. Our goal is to help our children to understand the importance of fire safety and teach them what to do in the event an emergency occurs. After all, today’s children are tomorrow’s leaders. Some of the safety points emphasized during these sessions are; exit drills in the home, burn prevention, use of 911, stop, drop, and roll techniques, smoke detector use, and general daily safety issues.
During 2008 our message reached over 2200 children. We also sponsor programs for Senior Citizens, City organizations, fire brigades, and our middle school students. Realizing that no one is exempt from the perils of fire, the department proudly displays its community message banner professing the proper and effective use of smoke detectors across Palisade Avenue each October. Our department is prideful of our impressive record of delivering effective fire and life safety messages to our residents and will feverishly attempt to improve the safety of the community and the public we protect through the introduction of new innovative fire prevention programs and the continuance of our current effective curriculums. .
